Mary Boyd has been appointed to the Board of the Valdosta Choral Guild as the Librarian.

Mary Gooding recently completed her term as Chairman of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority. She will continue to serve as a member of the Authority. Mary is the wife of our partner, Tom Gooding.

Will Elliott has joined the law of firm Elliott, Blackburn & Gooding, P.C. as an Associate. His practice focuses on litigation and local government law. Prior to joining Elliott, Blackburn & Gooding, Will worked as the Legal Fellow for the District Attorney's Office in the Southern Judicial Circuit. Will is a 2013 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law. While in law school, he served the Wake Forest Litigation Clinic, working for the Winston-Salem, North Carolina Public Defender's Office. Will graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University in 2010, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He attended Valwood School in Valdosta, where he graduated as the Class Salutatorian in 2006. In addition to his law practice, Will is the Assistant Soccer Coach for Valwood School and attends First Presbyterian Church. He resides in Valdosta.

Tom Gooding is General Counsel for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce. In an expansion of his role, Tom now participates in all Board of Director's meetings and executive sessions as the legal counselor to the Board and its officers. Valdosta's local Chamber is one of the most respected in Georgia and consists of over 1,300 members. The Chamber recently achieved reaccreditation as 5 Star Accredited Chamber, the highest possible, by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is one of only 7 chambers in Georgia and 76 out of over 7,000 chambers of commerce nationwide to achieve this distinction. Tom served as Chairman of the Board of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber in 2011.

Jim Elliott attended the triennial Episcopal Church Chancellors Conference in Clearwater Beach, Florida. The Chancellor is legal counsel and advisor to the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia as well as other ecclesiastical authorities and officers of the Diocese.

Tom Gooding is re-appointed to the Committee of 100 at Candler School of Theology at Emory University. The Committee of 100 strengthens Candler's ties with the church and community by serving as ambassadors for the School and working to stimulate interest in support for ministerial education. The Committee of 100 also serves as a sounding board to the Dean concerning the work of the School.

Jim Elliott presented a paper entitled When Church Law Trumps State Law to the Ninth Annual Nonprofit Law Seminar of the Nonprofit Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.

Jim Elliott has been named by the Rt. Rev. Scott A. Benhase, Bishop of the Diocese of Georgia, to serve as Vicar of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Quitman, Georgia. Jim serves as Vicar to this local congregation in addition to his full-time law practice.

Tom Gooding completes his term as Chairman of the Board of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce. Tom will now reassume his role as General Counsel of the Chamber. Valdosta’s local Chamber is one of the most respected in Georgia and consists of over 1,500 members. In the landmark religious property case Rector, Wardens and Vestrymen of Christ Church in Savannah v. Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, 290 Ga. 95, 718 S.E. 2d 237 (2012) the Supreme Court of Georgia affirmed earlier decisions of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of Chatham County that the real and personal property owned by Christ Church Savannah was held in trust for the Episcopal Church and the members of Christ Church Savannah that remained members of the Episcopal Church. Jim Elliott represented the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia and the members of Christ Church that remained faithful members of the Episcopal Church in the case.

Walter Elliott is appointed to the Board of Directors for the Presbyterian Homes of Georgia. Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is a statewide ministry, serving more than 1,000 residents on four campuses with a fifth campus in development. Even as the ministry grows, their mission to enhance the quality of life for senior adults remains constant.

Tom Gooding recently completed a two year term as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Valwood School. He has served as a member of the Valwood Board of Trustees since 2002. Valwood School is an independent college preparatory school located in Valdosta. Tom's partner, Walter Elliott has also chaired the Valwood's Board of Trustees.

Jim Elliott was ordained by the Rt. Rev. Scott A. Benhase, Bishop of Georgia, to the Sacred Order of Priests in the Episcopal Church. He also serves as legal counsel for The Episcopal Church as Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. Jim's service as an Episcopal Priest and as Chancellor to the Diocese is in addition to his full-time practice of law.
